About Echeveria 'Charleston'
Echeveria 'Charleston' is a striking hybrid variety prized for its vibrant color transformation and symmetrical form. This compact succulent develops 4-5 inch rosettes with spoon-shaped leaves that emerge sage green and mature to rich coral-pink under sunlight. The foliage displays a delicate powdery coating (farina) that enhances its pastel tones. In spring, mature plants produce arching flower stalks bearing bell-shaped blooms in sunset orange hues. Its exceptional color stability and moderate growth habit make it ideal for both indoor and outdoor displays.
How to Care for Echeveria 'Charleston'
Light: Thrives in 5-6 hours of direct morning sunlight with afternoon shade. South-facing windows or shaded outdoor areas in USDA zones 9-11 provide ideal conditions. Insufficient light causes color fading.
Water: Water deeply when soil is completely dry (typically every 10-14 days in summer). Reduce to monthly in winter. Avoid wetting the rosette center.
Temperature: Prefers 60-80°F (15-27°C). Tolerates brief frost to 30°F (-1°C) when dry. Provide afternoon shade above 85°F (29°C).
Soil & Potting: Use well-draining mix (50% perlite/pumice). Choose shallow containers 1-2 inches wider than rosettes with drainage holes.
Fertilizer: Apply diluted low-nitrogen fertilizer (5-10-5) monthly during active growth (spring-fall).
Pests & Disease: Resistant to most pests. Prevent rot by avoiding overwatering.
Propagation: Echeveria 'Charleston' propagates best through leaf cuttings with 80% success. Select healthy leaves, allow 5-7 days to callus, then place on dry soil. Begin misting after roots form (2-3 weeks). New plants mature in 4-6 months.
